Course Description and Objectives
This is a 1.5 credit course, conducted over five days at the beginning of the fall
term. It is required of all incoming GPMBA students.
There are several overall objectives for this course:
- To help increase students' awareness and sensitivity to cross-cultural/societal
differences in conducting global business.
- To create a long-term interest in students to learn the fundamental differences in
relating to others in social and business settings across cultures.
- To establish the groundwork for integration and application of the learning from this
course to other courses at Fordham GBA.
The learning objectives for this course are:
- To help students develop skills to effectively manage interactions and groups of diverse
individuals. Sessions will focus on learning to identify individual differences (in
values, skills, personality, and cultural background) and to manage the dynamics of group
interaction. The objective is to demonstrate, through the use of assessments, exercises,
cases and simulations, that groups of diverse individuals, if properly managed, can
produce better results than individuals.
- To provide students an opportunity to learn about developing strategy in a global
environment. Using the Chinese Automobile Case students will work as a cross
cultural team on a selected global strategy issue. Faculty members will provide
guidance during the process. The completed project will be presented to an audience
of students and faculty.
